StarCraft II bags UK chart number one for the PC

Blizzard’s long awaited RTS sequel has bagged the top spot in the all-format chart. In fact, StarCraft II is the first PC only game which has managed to become king of the video gaming hill this year, as compiled by Chart Track.

The original StarCraft only managed number twenty-four when it was released back in 1998, whereas the sequel has sold more in its launch week than the first game managed in its entire lifespan (of boxed copies, that is).

It was a nicely picked release week for Blizzard, mind you, as no other big titles were emerging. Toy Story 3 has been pushed down to number two, and Red Dead Redemption is still behind that at number three.

Dance on Broadway is bopping away at number four, and Lego Harry Potter continued to sell well at number five. All these titles have basically slid down one place to make way for StarCraft II.

Just Dance found itself resurgent at number six, catching back up with Ubisoft’s broadway based dance title, and Dragon Quest IX managed to creep up to number seven.

Modern Warfare 2 is at number eight, coming back up from number eleven which it fell to last week. Activision’s hit shooter has shifted that many copies since its November 2009 launch, it’s soon to become the best-selling video game ever made in the UK.
