Laptop repair hacker caught out by Sky

A laptop engineer working at a London based computer repair shop has been caught out in an undercover investigation initiated by Sky News.

Grzegorz Zachodni was dealing with a problem with the notebook’s memory, but unbeknownst to him, the portable had been fitted with software which recorded what he was up to on the desktop.

The laptop’s webcam was also set up to record footage of him working on the device.

After the memory issue was fixed, Zachodni happily trawled through a folder on the notebook marked private, containing shots of a Sky reporter in her bikini, which he copied onto a USB stick. Then he obtained her login details for Facebook, eBay and her online bank account.

Sky News reports that he subsequently attempted to access her bank account on six occasions.

After this information was passed on to the Metropolitan police’s e-crime unit, Zachodni was charged with attempted fraud.

The judge “took a tough line”, a Sky News respondent commented, to set an example for those considering abusing similar positions of trust. Zachodni was sentenced to nine months in jail.

What he did was wrong, but why call him a “hacker”? He didn’t hack anything, the details were on the laptop, no “hacking” required, it was a set up. Good that he got caught though..

lol. Why would you name a folder “private” your asking for it to be looked at then. Curiosity killed the cat?
