Plastic Logic’s planned Que e-reader, which would have been another rival on the e-book block for Kindle, has been canned.
The problem was the product was considerably delayed – it should have been shipped earlier this year. And given the state of the market now, it’s too much of a risk to release it at this point in time.
Plastic Logic CEO Richard Archuleta said: “We recognise the market has dramatically changed, and with the product delays we have experienced, it no longer make sense for us to move forward with our first generation electronic reading product.
“This was a hard decision, but is the best one for our company, our investors and our customers.”
Instead, Plastic Logic has switched focus to produce a second generation ProReader device. The company says it will redesign and retool the product, while perfecting its core plastic electronic technology.
The technology in question allows for the manufacture of ultra-thin and lightweight mobile devices, which Plastic Logic claims remain “unmatched” by products with traditional silicon semiconductor glass based displays.

Why have you got a picture of a laptop accompanying this story? There are mockup pictures of the Que reader all over the internet – stick one of them up instead…!!
It’s simply a generic image to show the news item is in the computer news category – however, it’s on my to-do list to update the images with text to show this more clearly. :)
