It seems that Sony Ericsson might be working on crossing the humble smartphone with the PSP Go.
Multiple sources are speculating on Engadget’s original report which sparked the rumour mill, claiming that Sony Ericsson is about to revolutionise gaming on Android.
Engadget’s trusted source claims that Sony Ericsson is putting serious development energy into birthing a new mobile gaming platform and device.
The phone will apparently run Android 3.0 (Gingerbread), and will be a landscape slider handset, except instead of a keyboard sliding out, you’ll have a panel with a control pad and PSP buttons. Analog controls will come in the form of a long touchpad.
In theory, it will sport a large at least WVGA resolution display, which will be around the 4 inch mark in size. A 1GHz Snapdragon processor is expected under the bonnet.
The big question, hardware aside, is what kind of games will this platform boast? PSX or PSP style affairs is the answer, with the likes of God of War and Call of Duty being mentioned by Engadget.
It all sounds very plausible, but of course, it’s only a rumour. The site mentions as early as October for a possible launch date, so confirmation should be coming soon, one way or another.
