HTC Desire HD to be announced September 15th?

It seems that HTC will be announcing the successor to the Desire smartphone on September 15th.

The news comes as HTC has sent out invites to the press for an event on that date, which doesn’t mention any specifics, but merely says “Come see what HTC has dreamt up.”

By the looks of the wafting black smoke which is the only other feature of the invite, it’s a new fire alarm.

Of course not. Rumour has it that this will be the unveiling of the HTC Desire HD, or whatever it will be called (previous suggestions have been the HTC Ace).

Eurodroid spotted that the shape in the smoke looks like the camera lens in the leaked snap of the Desire HD, which adds weight to the speculation. Here’s the pic of the invite to have a gander at.

What can you see in the smoke (it’s getting a bit like Lost, now, isn’t it)? There actually seems to be an entire outline of the top half of the smartphone, in fact, though it’s pretty well camouflaged.
