The recession has obviously had an effect on PC sales, but matters are now picking up across Europe, according to figures for the second quarter.
The stats in question come from research firm Gartner (as highlighted by Tech World), showing that PC sales in western Europe have increased by 19.6% when compared to the same quarter last year.
However, the UK’s growth dipped well below this average, and in fact our country was the poorest performing with a growth of 15.1%. Still, at least it’s upwards movement, but France experienced an upsurge that was almost double this level at 29%.
There was bad news within the British market for Dell, which has slipped from the top PC manufacturer to third position. Acer is now number one in the UK, with HP behind it in second place.
PC Pro reports that Dell’s sales fell from 597,000 PCs and laptops in Q2 2009, to an estimated 460,000 this year, a very hefty drop. Acer has surpassed Dell‘s total from last year, even, with the company predicted to hit 650,000 units shipped.
