Samsung Galaxy Tab details revealed

After much teasing and leaking, Samsung has finally given the detailed skinny on its upcoming Galaxy Tab.

We already knew the Galaxy Tab would run Android 2.2, and come with a 7 inch screen, although we didn’t know the resolution of that display, which it turns out will be 1024 x 600.

So what are the slate’s selling points over the currently dominating iPad? It’s more compact, for starters, and with Android 2.2 it has full Flash support for a more complete web browsing experience, plus access to the Android app store.

The Tab also has two cameras, a 3.2 megapixel main snapper on the back, and a 1.3 megapixel front-facing one for video conferencing. A 1GHz processor powers the tablet, which will come in two flavours, with 16GB and 32GB of memory. You’ll also be able to double up on that, adding another 32GB via a microSD slot. Wi-fi and 3G is also on board.

Interestingly, Samsung is marketing this as a smartphone-tablet hybrid, with the ability to make calls via speaker-phone, or a bluetooth headset. Or you can pick it up, hold it to your ear and do your best Dom Joly impersonation if you so wish.

It’s quite an impressive little tech spec, but the one thing that hasn’t yet been revealed is the price for the Galaxy Tab. It shouldn’t be long before it is, however, as the slate is expected to launch later this month.
