A new version of the Nike+ app is out for the iPhone, which lets you track your running progress without having one of those little sensors embedded in your Nike trainers.
The app requires iOS 4, and uses the accelerometer to determine your pace, and the GPS feature of Apple‘s smartphone to map out where you’ve been running. It can then display your speed throughout the run on the map, marking slower paced sections in red, and the bits where you were sprinting after the ice cream van in green.
When running indoors on a treadmill, the app can still be used to work out your pace and other useful data to determine just how hard a workout you’ve given yourself.
Social elements are also included in the app, with Facebook and Twitter integration to show off just how fit you are to your friends (or how many ice creams you ate on that run).
While the app isn’t free, it’s only a quid from iTunes, so isn’t likely to break the bank.
