It seems that the launch date for Windows Phone 7 has been revealed, or so the rumour mill has it.
And the magic date when Microsoft hopes its mobile fortunes are going to get a major boost from the new OS is October 11th.
This is according to “multiple sources familiar with the matter”, Pocket Lint reports, and it would seem likely this is accurate as the release date was expected to be mid-October. The launch event will apparently happen in New York (and the news will start spreading from there).
Windows Phone 7 brings with it a much cleaner and improved interface, designed around live tiles and hubs. It also sports an IE based browser with pinch-to-zoom, multi-touch, and sharp, clear text due to the use of sub-pixel positioning on web pages.
Also, the OS will witness a major push on the gaming front, with over fifty games available at launch, including some big name franchises such as Halo and Guitar Hero, along with full Xbox Live integration.
The focus is on a much more widespread consumer appeal, which Microsoft hopes will help it recover market share from the downward trajectory Windows Mobile has taken of late.
