FIFA 11 is the new number one at the top of the UK game chart as compiled by Chart Track. The game outsold last year’s FIFA comfortably, with units shifted up 21% (and revenue even more at 36%) for the first week on sale.
In fact, FIFA 11 has become the third biggest video game launch in the UK ever, behind Modern Warfare 2 and Grand Theft Auto IV. Almost two-thirds of the games sold on the Xbox and PS3 this week were copies of FIFA 11.
EA’s footballing success pushed last week’s number one, F1 2010, down to number two, with Dead Rising 2 following that at number three.
Halo: Reach has dropped to number four, and Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock follows, with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 buoyed up to number six by the fuss over the Ryder Cup no doubt.
Sony’s Move title, Sports Champions, is at number seven, although it remains the best selling Move game for the third week in a row.
Next week, this year’s incarnation of Pro Evolution Soccer launches, so it will be interesting to see how the match between that and FIFA goes.
