Earlier this morning, we reported on the fact that Windows Phone 7 handsets will allow for memory expansion via a microSD slot (despite what Microsoft has previously stated).
The catch is you can’t remove the microSD card without hard resetting the phone, so this isn’t a removable storage solution. And it’s not clear which WP7 mobiles will come with a microSD slot, although it appears the Samsung Focus will.
GSM Arena reports that the Samsung Focus, which is the US (AT&T) version of the Omnia 7, will have essentially the same specs but for one difference. The Focus has a microSD slot tucked away in the battery compartment.
However, the Omnia 7 doesn’t, meaning that Samsung UK customers won’t be able to expand the memory. Which seems rather a shame, to say the least.
According to other reports, at least there will be a 16GB version of the Omnia 7 as well as the 8GB flavour. But why Samsung couldn’t have kept the microSD support in for the Omnia as with the Focus, we’re really not sure.
