Last week was Black Friday, the start of the serious Christmas shopping discounts in the States (which Amazon brought over here this year, to a controversial reception as many offers sold out within seconds).
Driven by new bundles such as the Red Edition Wii, along with the tempting discounts, sales managed to gather some impressive momentum.
According to CVG Nintendo’s own internal estimates put the sales figures for last week at 1.5 million consoles in total. That comprised of 600,000 Wiis and 900,000 DS handhelds.
Wii sales were actually up on Black Friday week last year, during which the console shifted 550,000 units. Being 9% up in the face of the release of Sony’s Move and Microsoft’s Kinect motion controllers is quite impressive.
