iPad gets insurance from Citymain

Brian Turner

Not many people may are likely to have heard of insurer Citymain, but according to a recent release they’ve added a specialist line of insurance for iPad owners.

Claiming to have offered specialist gadget insurance for over 26 years, the new iPad insurance is part of a Tablet PC line the company has launched.

Citymain note that while one of the biggest benefits of iPads and tablet PC’s is their portability, this is also a great weakness, not least through their small size making them especially vulnerable to being lost or stolen.

While Apple do offer a free location protect at registration, to help their customers locate their any lost device or even wipe its data, no doubt the idea of specialist insurance on top may appeal to some people.

After all, there’s little joy to be had to spend a few hundred pounds on a tablet only to find it was badly damaged when lost.

However, Citymain will be providing the insurance directly to resellers and suppliers, to allow them to offer the insurance directly to consumers.

Paul Kelsey, Managing Director of Citymain, said, “Our policy allows our clients, such as Apple Premier Resellers and other participating retailers, to tailor the coverage to meet the needs of their customers. We can provide day-one protection against Theft and Accidental Damage, including liquid damage, as well as giving the customer the opportunity to extend the manufacturers’ warranty for product failure”.

While no doubt standard home insurance will overlap with this, its worth double checking your policy terms.

This is not least as a number of popular home insurance companies have a limit on the among of cover they will provide for electronics – not just your iPad, but your HDTV as well.
