If you’re keenly awaiting the arrival of the iPad sequel on these shores, then the post-US-launch shenanigans may have had you worried.
Stories of stock selling out and eBayers gouging profits on the iPad 2 could well make you wonder if we’ll see delays similar to those the original iPad experienced in the UK.
And on top of that, there’s also talk of component shortages due to the Japanese quake and tsunami disaster (although in fairness, that’s not so much of a short term problem, as there’s enough excess supply in the pipeline for the time being).
Anyhow, it seems whatever your fear, it’s unfounded according to Apple. The iPad 2 will be ready for purchase in the UK on March 25th, this Friday. Although exactly at what point it will be available during the day isn’t so clear.
TechRadar has word from an Apple spokesperson that Friday will definitely be the day. Apple told them: “Everything that is on the website still holds true; the website says 25 March and that’s when it’ll be.”
Yet PCR claims that while the tablet will be available come Friday, it won’t be first thing. An apparent shipping faux-pas is going to hold up supplies until later in the day.
PCR’s source is Robert Peckham, former Executive Director of the Mac Technology Association reseller group, and he reckons Apple stores won’t have the device on sale until later on. And therefore, Apple has asked other retailers not to start selling the iPad 2 ahead of them.
Effectively, you might not be able to get an iPad 2 until 5pm, which isn’t going to be a particularly welcome state of affairs for the faithful queueing early in the morning (or even overnight).
