Sony has provided another update on the PSN situation on the official PlayStation blog.
The company’s network and security teams have begun the “final stages” of internal testing of its new security system. New measures drafted in include more defensive software monitoring and firewalls, along with enhanced levels of data protection and encryption.
It notes that this is “an important step towards restoring PlayStation Network and Qriocity services”, but still doesn’t give an estimated ETA of when both services will be back up and running.
Obviously the implication is that it’s soon, but it sounds unlikely that it will be today, as the company adds it will provide “additional updates” on the ETA when they have more information.
Sony had previously promised PSN would be live again this week, but our guess is that things have taken longer than expected, and it won’t be up until Monday or Tuesday now.
Unless Sony is playing it clever, making it sound like we’re going to be waiting until next week, and then when PSN comes up just before the weekend everyone’s happy…
Happy as you can be knowing your identity details (and potentially even credit card) are being flogged off by some grubby hacker on an underground forum somewhere.
