We reported on Friday about the problems which hit Skype users across the world.
Some had trouble signing on to the service due to a corruption which hit just a “small percentage” of users, the company claimed.
The problem was evident across all computer platforms, and those on Windows were addressed with a quick fix, whereas a Mac solution was promised to be arriving very shortly.
It did indeed, true to Skype’s word, and the hotfix to Skype 5.1 for Mac was released later on. You can grab it here.
Note that if you implemented the manual fix we mentioned on Friday, you don’t need to apply this. Also before initiating the fix, make sure no Skype processes are running, so you should quit Skype, restart your Mac and then perform the fix.
The same advice goes for Windows users who are updating to the latest Skype client to solve the issue. On Friday, some of our readers complained the Windows update didn’t work, perhaps because they didn’t quit Skype and reboot their machine before applying it.
Definitely ensure you follow this procedure before carrying out the fix on either PC or Mac.
