The Samsung Galaxy S II is the most popular smartphone in the UK, at least according to Uswitch.com’s mobile tracking data.

In fact, the Galaxy S II has retained the crown of best smartphone for the second month running ahead of Apple’s iPhone 4 in second place.

It won’t come as any surprise to folks who have been following Samsung lately, with the Galaxy S series receiving critical acclaim and much positive feedback from users. Indeed, the original Galaxy S handset is at number six in the top ten smartphones chart (up two places from last month).

Analysts have recently predicted that Samsung will knock Nokia off its worldwide number one smartphone perch before long, with sales of the S II flying out.

HTC is another company which has done very well off the back of Android, and two of its phones occupy the number three and four positions. These are the freshly released HTC Sensation, which has shot up four places since its launch, and at number four the trusty old HTC Desire.

A BlackBerry is in at the number five spot, the Curve 8520, and the remainder of the top ten is occupied by a number of HTC devices – the Wildfire, Wildfire S, and other variants of the Desire, the HD and S.

Samsung and HTC might be pretty chuffed, but next month will see some movement for LG most likely, as its Optimus 3D launches. That should ruffle a few top ten feathers. HTC, of course, also has its own three dimensional offering on the way, the HTC Evo 3D.

And then there’s the iPhone 4GS/5 on the horizon this autumn…
