Forza 4 ousts FIFA 12 from top of UK game chart

Microsoft's racing game just pips FIFA 12 to pole position

Microsoft’s Forza Motorsport 4 has burnt some serious rubber on the grid for its debut week, accelerating past EA’s FIFA 12 which has been in the top spot for the last two weeks.

Despite being out on the Xbox only, Forza 4 topped the all-format UK chart, but it only overtook FIFA 12 by some 700 copies, so there was very little in it.

FIFA 12 sales had fallen heavily by 62% again – they fell by a similar chunk last week – which helped the Microsoft driving game inch past. Forza 4 managed to secure the accolade of the best-selling ever launch week for a racing game on the Xbox.

So FIFA 12 was number two, followed by another new entry at number three, Just Dance 3. Rage, last week’s number two, slipped to number four, and that was followed by a third new entry rounding out the top five – Pro Evolution Soccer 2012.

PES debuted at number two last year, and it would seem EA’s FIFA series is now clearly ruling the roost.

Gears of War 3 was down at number six, and Dark Souls fell to number seven. Zumba Fitness is at number eight, still refusing to leave the top ten, and the other big recent driving game launch, F1 2011, slipped down to number nine.

Jonah Lomu Rugby Challenge was another new entry at number ten, driven by the rugby world cup.

There were several further new entries in the top twenty, as well. Arcade flight combat sim Ace Combat: Assault Horizon swooped in at number twelve, and Off the Record, an expansion for Dead Rising 2, hit number fourteen.

Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure came in at number sixteen.
