Virgin Media is updating its customers TiVo boxes over the coming week.
The update process starts from today (well last night actually) and runs into next week, a staggered delivery to the customer base, so you might not get yours this weekend – although most folks should have it before Monday rolls around.
Upgraded TiVo boxes will gain new functionality and also some bug fixes and tweaks.
For example, Virgin is promising to fix the HD upscaling, and some of the sluggishness some users have experienced when using the box.
A new “express” series link feature is being added to mean just one stab of a button can put an entire series for recording, C-Net reports, with recordings given four minutes berth at the end so you’re guaranteed not to annoyingly miss that final scene.
Apparently iPlayer functionality is being added as well, with the ability to search the Beeb’s on-demand platform, along with new typing functionality to make tapping in those long search terms easier.
Improved YouTube support is also the plan.
Added security is on the cards with new parental controls that mean late night programmes can be locked away from the kids.
Finally, Apple gadget owners will be pleased to hear an app is on the way for the iPhone and iPad which will allow for remote access to your TiVo when you’re away.
You’ll likely get the update tonight or at some point over the weekend (if you didn’t already get it yesterday evening, that is). Just be sure to keep your TiVo box on standby rather than switched off overnight, so it can receive the upgrade.
