It seems that it’s not only Apple which is having problems with its new flagship smartphone’s battery.
The standby life of the iPhone 4S has been well grumbled about, but Nokia’s new Windows Phone handset, the Lumia 800, is also having juice issues. Although only in a minority of customer’s cases, by all accounts.
It seems that some folks’ Lumia’s are having trouble charging up, and their battery life isn’t the best either.
Nokia has confirmed the issue and indeed posted online to let customers know that not one but two fixes are in the works. The first is coming soon, at the start of next month, and the second at the beginning of 2012.
The Finnish firm said: “A software update in early December will include improvements to power efficiency, while a second update in early January introduces further enhancements to battery life and battery charging.”
So the charging failure problems won’t be addressed until the new year, not ideal for Lumia 800 owners who are affected by the issue.
The Lumia 800 suffered something of a blow this week, with one analyst at Pacific Crest cutting his forecast for the handset this quarter from 2 million units shipped to 1 million, believing Nokia will only sell 500,000 of those.
Of course that’s just one opinion, and Nokia has fired back saying that in fact the handset has got off to a flyer – at least in the UK, selling out across the country. In fact, Nokia is claiming its best ever week in recent history in terms of UK smartphone sales, although it didn’t provide anything in the way of figures to back this assertion.
Still, those numbers should be in the pipeline, because the company will doubtless be keen to boast the exact extent of its success pretty sharpish.
