OnLive, the cloud gaming service, has announced the update of its free app for Android which was launched a couple of weeks back.

The app now supports the slide-out gaming controls of the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play smartphone, so Play owners can now experience the latest console releases on their handset.

Steve Perlman, OnLive Founder and CEO, commented: “From the moment we launched our OnLive Android app, gamers began asking about Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY game control support.”

“We listened and delivered. Now Xperia PLAY gamers in the US and UK can play almost all of OnLive’s 200 premium titles – including hit AAA games like Saints Row: The Third and Assassin’s Creed: Revelations – on their Xperia PLAY smartphone with a full console-class experience, including multiplayer and social features.”

OnLive can run fine on a smartphone because cloud platform means the actual game is running on a remote computer. The game is streamed to the OnLive device, so the only variable when it comes to smoothly running the latest titles is your internet connection, not your hardware.

You can bag the app for your Android phone here – though you need to be running Gingerbread 2.3 or better.

OnLive has also announced a “play-to-win sweepstakes” to go along with the launch of Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition.

This starts today at 12pm and runs through to the new year, with any players who demo the game getting entered into a prize draw giving away the likes of 95% off promo codes and the Mad Catz Official Street Fighter IV FightPad.

The Grand Prize, which gamers who play for more than three hours are entered for, is a trip to Las Vegas to watch the Evolution Championship Series.

Other Christmas promotions include three days of free Borderlands play (from the 28th to 30th) with sweepstake prizes for those who play co-op.

And on new year’s eve, Saints Row: The Third will benefit from an extended five hour trial, so if you were wanting to check the game out more extensively, that’s a good opportunity to do so.
