Finally, we have a new game at the top of the chart for the first time this year, after FIFA 12′s domination of the all-format chart throughout January.
The football game outsold Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3 and Skyrim throughout last month, but faced no challenge from any new releases as the typical new year game drought took hold.
However, a number of big new titles were out last week, and the biggest turned out to be Final Fantasy XIII-2 which hit number one.
Number two saw another new entry, Konami’s remastered Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, which comprises of the PS2 originals Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, along with Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker released a couple of years back on the PSP.
Battlefield 3 found itself at number three, pushing past FIFA 12 which dropped to number four.
There was another new entry at number five, the beat-’em-up Soulcalibur V, a surprisingly modest performance for the franchise. The fourth instalment of the fighting game went straight to number one on its release in 2008.
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations moved up to number six, with both Modern Warfare 3 and Skyrim slipping to numbers seven and eight respectively.
Just Dance 3 also slipped to number nine, with the Zumba Fitness titles falling out of the top ten (to numbers eleven and thirteen) as the new year fitness bug waned.
Saints Row: The Third clung on in at number ten.
