There’s a new number one in the all-format UK game chart this week, and it’s Activision-Blizzard’s first chart topper of the year: Prototype 2.
The action-adventure sold almost two-thirds of its copies on the Xbox, but didn’t quite match the sales of the original title, which came out in 2009.
In terms of week one sales, Prototype managed to outdo Kinect Star Wars, and last week’s number one, The Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition – but not FIFA Street, which sold a bundle upon its debut.
In fact, The Witcher 2 slid to number six in this week’s chart. FIFA Street remained at number two, followed by FIFA 12, the footballing games still selling very strongly.
Mass Effect 3 edged up to number four, with Kinect Star Wars slipping to number five, and then The Witcher 2 as we’ve just mentioned.
EA’s golfing outing Tiger Woods PGA Tour 13 found itself at number seven, followed by Battlefield 3, and then Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Saints Row: The Third sneaked back into the top ten, at number ten.
Modern Warfare 3 slid out of the top ten, down to number fourteen – as did Skyrim, which dropped to number thirteen.
Prototype 2 certainly won’t be the last Activision-Blizzard number one this year, in fact there’s another one due in a couple of weeks: Diablo III.
