Uswitch.com has just released its latest mobile tracker figures, and the freshly released Samsung Galaxy S III has gone straight to the top of the UK smartphone chart.

The S III knocked the iPhone 4S off the top spot, with Apple’s phone only actually being at number one for a month. Previously, it was the Galaxy S II, which is still selling well at number three.

HTC’s One range is also performing well enough, with the flagship One X at number four, and the S and V models at numbers eight and nine respectively.

Samsung will be pleased to see other handsets from its Galaxy range at number five and six, the Galaxy Ace and Galaxy Note. Between those and the One S and V, the vanilla iPhone 4 sits at number seven.

Finally, a Sony phone is clinging on at number ten, the Sony Xperia S. However, it’s down three places from last month, so may well slip away soon.

There are no BlackBerry handsets in the top ten, tellingly. Or Windows Phone devices, for that matter, with all the smartphones being Android powered save for the two iPhones.

Ernest Doku, technology expert at uSwitch.com, commented: “All eyes have been on the Samsung Galaxy S III after its high profile launch and, as far as early adopters are concerned, the handset is living up to expectations. It may even become a victim of its own success, with Samsung facing delays on shipping the Pebble Blue version, leaving many customers waiting on their pre-orders.”

Indeed, Samsung claims that there have been 10 million of those pre-orders placed. And the S III is set to have a good run at dominating the smartphone market for the next four months, given that the iPhone 5 isn’t due until October.
