Apparently Western Digital has 5TB desktop (and NAS) drives in the pipeline, at least according to a leaked roadmap.
It was only a couple of weeks back that Western Digital launched its 4TB Black drive, a 7200rpm disk with 64MB of cache and an integrated dual processor (read up more about it in our story here).
But 5TB is now being pushed for, according to the roadmap spotted by the Register (at Always More Digital), which shows that the 5TB monsters will be coming at the close of 2013.
So there’s still a bit of a wait before that sort of mammoth storage hits the market, and you’ll just have to make do with 4TB for now.
Indeed, the Green range should have a 4TB disk arriving alongside the Black’s 4TB model come the third quarter of 2013. More money, more storage, as they say… or something like that.
