Toshiba has taken the wraps off its new top-of-the-line 1080p models for this year, the Series 7 range, which come in 40 inch, 50 inch and 58 inch screen sizes.
The TVs, which are LCD (and LED backlit) have the usual thin bezel we’ve come to expect by now, to give that “image hanging in the air” effect. The panel sits atop a rather snazzy looking rectangular stand, too, and definitely looks the living room business.
Toshiba is really pushing the smart TV angle with these sets, again as expected in this increasingly digitally connected world of content, and indeed these models boast what’s called the Cloud TV platform (to throw another buzzword into the mix).
Tech Digest reports that Cloud TV facilitates the usual apps, from Netflix to iPlayer, and comes with a handy universal search engine which trawls across all content streams including Freeview HD.
Cloud TV also allows for multiple logins, and users can customise their own home screen with their most-used apps – plus parent can block adult content on their kids’ accounts. Until the kids figure out dad’s login, at least.
Another neat touch is integrated Twitter, also with Picture-in-Picture, so if you’re a reality show fan, you can watch the programme and the tweeting action simultaneously.
These models are due to hit the shops from May, and apparently the top-end 58 inch Series 7 HDTV will tip the scales at just over a grand – although the exact price is yet to be confirmed.
