Those of you with a smart TV of the LG variety will quite possibly be pleased to hear that the company is making PayPal payment available to users.

LG boasts that it’s the first manufacturer to do so, with PayPal going live on its sets in the UK, US and Canada right now (with France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Australia to follow shortly, later this month, and then other territories across the globe).

So if you’ve got a PayPal account, you’ll be able to enter the details into your LG Smart TV, and buy apps and services that way.

The PayPal payment system will have a “remember me” option, so you’ll be able to store your PayPal details in the TV set, and purchase anything you want with just a click on the remote.

Just be wary, of course, of your offspring potentially running riot in app-heaven, or indeed if your TV happens to get nicked.

Still, it’s undoubtedly a nice little convenience for LG Smart TV owners. We expect PayPal will be on other manufacturers’ sets before too long.

Richard Choi, senior vice president of the Smart Business Center at LG Electronics, commented: “LG and PayPal will create a more user-friendly Smart TV experience, enabling the user to make faster, more secure digital payments.”

“PayPal significantly reduces the number of steps the user has to take in order to complete a transaction; saving them time by eliminating the need to enter credit card and address details for each subsequent purchase. Moving forward, it will also make it possible for LG to better integrate digital commerce with first-class home entertainment.”
