Sony are about to launch the Xperia Z2 – the successor to the highly successful Xperia Z1 – less than a month after releasing the Z1 compact.
However, if you’re looking for an innovative upgrade you may be disappointed – the main change seems to be 4K HD video recording, and little else.
Even still, as a standalone phone the Xperia Z2 remains one of the best in the UK market, and keeps Sony in a neck and neck lead with Samsung in the UK smartphone field.
Samsung, of course, have just announced the new Galaxy S5, which offers 4K HD recording.
And waterproofing as standard – just as the Sony Xperia Z1 does.
In that regard, the new Xperia Z2 is less about trying to reach new heights, as much as ensuring Sony maintains a strong presence in the UK market.
However, unless you really give a rat’s ass for 4K recording, you are almost certainly better off with the Sony Xperia Z1 – which, even without 4K recording – is still easily one of the best smartphones on the UK market – if not the best.
Even better, the Xperia Z1 is available for just £390 from Amazon – which also makes it the most cost-effective best smartphone.
For those who insist on buying the Xperia Z2 – consider waiting a month. At present the handset is priced at £599 – the same as the Z1 when it was released. However, within a month the Z1 had plummeted in price from £599 to £479 – though Amazon remains the cheaper option.
