The BTVision service doesn't use a viewing card - its a certificate based system where each processor in each box has a unique digital certificate actually built into the silicon. These certificates are then verified online before each and every transaction.
I presume the card your talking about is actually part of the digital terrestrial package (which the BTVision boxes can also receive) rather than BTVision. If it is, then its a new model Seca card which is actually a derivative of the new Nagra cards that are presently being rolled out for cable. You cannot make a copy ! |

pzblues, you have sky sports? i would like to see if this works on both of your receivers, and therefore implying that the topup/btvision system doesnt use any form of card/rec pairing system. Bringing the idea of then using any suitably cammed tv/box to use the card to watch the channels, maybe using a seasons or similar interface.

For the BT service, the box itself is paired to the service via its own unique certificate. A box cannot log into the service unless it has such a certificate AND that certificate is linked to an active account.
Not sure how Sky sports is handled but as its part of the BT service i'd guess it will also be cardless and depend on the certificate. Unfortunately the certificate itself cannot be extracted as its physically built into a secure part of processor. |

No the SS1 & 2 are fed in via freeview not over the LAN. They are also available on freeview (TopUp TV) much like ESPN. Back in the day it was possible without any pairing keys, dont know if that is still the case, it would be hard to support a vast range of stbs and tvs each with the customer having to find out the IRD from some form of identification on the TV.
If it is truly unpaired nowadays, could do with a guinea pig just to put his/her skysports/ESPN card into a different reciever and check if the channels still appear. If it is true still that they are not paired expect a lot of UK users to use this method to watch SS1 SS2 ESPN channels. Its the prime suspect for a CS system anyway since there are very few channels even one card and cache would probably withstand the load from just 3 channels. It helps that sky has promised to show all sport of major importance to the majority on these 2 channels aswell |

If its using a card then its using the latest SECA system, which can easily be paired but I have no idea if the Topup system actually bothers with this function.
