what i said at the start of this thread doesn't apply anymore as the software for the eurovox has changed.

my understanding is that vm have increased the signal in some areas. this will swamp the tuner with data and cause picture breakup.

i swapped my eurovox for a dreambox and everything was fine until a few weeks ago.

i then did some tests with a set of attenuators.

with no attenuator fitted. snr 96 agc 39 ber 0 with picture breakup.

with a 6db attenuator fitted. snr 96 agc 41 ber 0 with no picture breakup.

with a 12db attenuator fitted. snr 95 agc 46 ber 0 with no picture breakup.

with a 18db attenuator fitted. snr 93 agc 55 ber 0 with no picture breakup.

with a 24db attenuator fitted. snr 90 agc 74 ber 18-70. couldn't see any picture breakup.

i left it on 18.

seems my signal was too strong after all.

too strong a signal can cause picture break up that has been proved many times before and an attenuator reduces the signal strength which in turn improves the signal quality.

as they are only a few quid this would be a cheap and cheerfull solution.

Its still a great post mate, sorted my 12 month worth of frustration out in about 2 mins

by adjusting the frequencies as you posted is the ONLY way of getting the true frequency of a transponder, the problem with the eurovox is it rounds off to the nearest eg 538.000 when the true frequency broadcast is 538.750

Signal strenths on BBC1 and 2 are floating around 77 - 80% depending on what frequency it is changed too and still doesn't fix the problem...any other thoughts out there???

i have a splitter which i have to fit cos of BB as well as TV.

i opened up the VM wall box inside and it had a TRANTEC fully isolated system outlet 5-1000 MHz 0.4dB. is it best to remove this and fit the splitter in its place or fit the splitter afterwards? outside i have no connectors until the coax meets the fatter cable which comes up from the pavement.

thanks for any pointers

THIS MAY HELP, WORTH A TRY ANYWAY!

i've been having a play with the different connection options and this is what i've found.

I started by opening the White VM box and unscrewing the incoming cable that comes thru the wall, i added the little screw in adapter to the cable and pluged straight into the RF socket on the eurovox and did a fast scan (had to unbolt the tv from the wall as well to get it nearer lol).

when done i found the picture to be the clearest i've seen on this tv,

then i added a splitter between the incoming cable and the Eurovox and all was still ok,

then plugged my BB into other socket on splitter and the picture as went blocky and started dropping to no singal message!!

so i added the TRATEC ('fully isolated system outlet') after the splitter on the TV side and all was fine again although the picture quaility is not as clear as after the first scan it is still more than watchable.

then just out of interest i put the TRATEC before the splitter and got simular sort of results to above.

i suppose this is better cos ur whole system is isolater rather than just ur TV.

any1 know why this isolator would cause picture breakdown if it is not fitted on a split system????????

NOTES:

TRATEC thingy is the thing that was already inside the VM wall box.

80% of channels was not altered by any of the above but i found SKY Action to be among the ones that was, so all my testing was done using this channel.

ive had the same trouble as many of the members(picture break up and chirping) and found the best salution it fitting an attenuator. trouble is i couldnt find any instruction on how to do it so it was trial and error(or fiddle and break as my wife likes to call it)heres what i did, simply fit one end to your box(screw fit) and the other end to the cable then twist the small screw on the side until your picture is sorted.mine had to be turned clock wise. then i skipped through the channels looking for more break up and giving the screw an extra twist as and when it was needed until all the channels were clear. i got the attenuator of a well known auction site for £6.75. hope this helps the non techy types like me. the attenuator is a variable type 0 to 20bd

Hi all...had the same problem for months, until a friend told me to unplug the Splitter (which was connected next to my OTHER box),and now all the channels have stopped jumping YAY!..I then put the splitter on the actual cable box outside my house, and ran another cable wire to another room in my house. All works perfect...Means you can connect your normal box to,say,a bedroom, and still have a ALL-CHANNEL box in Living room....Hope this helps
