Default Got A V+ box but not on V+ package

Engineer came round to look at a fault and replaced my box with one of the new Samsung V+ boxes but I'm not a V+ subscriber. Is there any way of me using the recording part without upgrading my account??

No but the monthly charge for V+ is ZERO if you are on TV XL and only £5 per month if you are on a lower package.

Thanks for the response but the problem is where I live we have subsidized changes for Virgin (comes as part of the flat rent I think), but if we ask to go up to V+ the subsidy goes away. No clue why the helpdesk just say that the V+ package isn't subsidized. So they worked it out and it will cost me £20 a month more than what I'm on now with my XL package.
But seems a bit of a waste having the box but not been able to use it.

You should consider yourself fortunate that what services you have are at a subsidised rate. I see no problem in expecting you to pay the full, unsubsidised price to get the best function.
