Default Just Bought DVB-S Tv Card - Help Needed

Hi i have just bought the VIDEOMATE S350 tv card for the pc and i have been fiddling with it all day and now its making me mad lol.

First of all when i start it i pick my country which is UK (scotland) and then it asks for area and it has no data in the box and nothing else to pick.

Then i have to search for the channels which i have to pick from a list of over 50 satellites, so i go for the astra 2a, 2b and 2d which doesn't give you all the channels, but i skipped that last time and went into option and it gave you over 500 channels

So none of the Five Channels work, sky 3 doesn't work, i only get the cbs drama channel but cant get the cbs reality or action and those were the ones i wanted most.

Now it has stuck again so im going to have to restart pc, does anyone have the same card or the same problems that can give me some help or any info about getting the channels that dont work.

Thanks in advance for any help

Can you please provide more information, as this is a PC card full specifications regarding your PC and Operating System would be helpful.

Have you downloaded the latest drivers for the card or just used the disk that came with it?

Have you checked with windows update to see if you need any updates to get it working properly?

I think Compro make your card, but check the box for the manufacturers web address, just in case it's different.

Well pc is very capable i dont have time to go thru everything just now, driver is updated, windows is also updated - XP SP3 i have noticed that if i switch between astra 2 and hotbird 1,2,3,4,6 i can get the channels i want but there is no easy way of switching between both, takes a good 5 -10 mins to scan the 2 satellites, channels are kind of split between both. I have no idea why the epg is not working

EPG on Sky is odd, cant remember if they encrypt it or not but its definately non-standard so getting it on a dvb card may be problematical. You should be able to get any EPG that goes out on the freesat channels.

You should only need to scan at 28.2E (assuming your using a fixed Sky dish). It should find the Astra 2/Eurobird sats that both Sky and Freesat are transmitted on. If you want to play around with manual scans or trying to construct your own sat list then details of transponder frequencies etc can be found on lyngsat.

Whilst setting up initially, always stick with the program and drivers that come with the card. Dont try to update anything until you know it all works as it comes out of the box. Once you have things working THEN update the drivers and then DUMP the app that comes with the card and aquire a decent 3rd party app (something like MyTheatre is pretty good - lots of possibilites with addons )

The card itself is actually pretty good although basic (most of these cards are really only a tuner and a PCI interface chip). The drivers are pretty bog standard bda types so third party software should be no problem. The viewing software, as is normal for cheap dvb cards, is abysmal - basically the minimum thats required to give functionality but not much else. They really dont expect people to actually use it !

28.2e is coming up astra 2a, 2b and 2d and i get most of the channels but if i want to watch cbs reality i have to scan for the hotbird 1,2,3,4,6 satellite which is a bit of a pain as it takes a good 5 - 10 mins to scan the satellites

Isn't there a function of saving channel lists.

Doesn't the CBS channels come in 28.2e, it should because if you were using a box you would have it fixed at 28.2e and it would get all the channels.

Im in the process of trying to save channel lists for each satellite but dont think there is an option for saving astra satellite and hotbird, if i have been changing satellites then i just need to import my channel list into the correct satellite but i need to scan each time, as for the cbs channels, drama is on the astra and cbs reality and action are on hotbird along with the horror channel
