Post Checking ip address of server

How to I check the IP address of the server my KV 780 is connecting to. It is conected to port 4 of my d-link router (if that is relevant or not). Other posts have said it is simple to do, but I have not found a post as how to actually do it!!

If you dont know how to acomplish something so simple then just take my word for it that its not in the EU !

There's plenty of tools around for examining everything on your local network.

Its useful to know its not in the EU for your own protection. Other than that, there's really no reason for a detailed location.

If people are really paranoid then they should probably be using a VPN in any case.

Thanks for the replys and apologies for the duplicate question on another thread. Just a newbie to this guys so cut me a bit of slack.

I am not overly paranoid but then again I would prefer to know what I am dealing with if ever I have to defend myself in court. I would suggest it is not enough for my own protection that the server is outwith the EU. If the server was in Canada for example which I know has pretty tight internet privacy laws (I had subscribed to a proxy server in Canada for P2P stuff) I would be pretty happy, then again if it was in the USA I would be concerned as I assume they would be quite happy to share details with the UK.

So again if anyone can provide an idiopts guide to help me then great. I know there are plenty of ip address websites that identify where an ip is from. Just don't know how to find the IP address the box in connecting to.

Coder, took your advice and downloaded a packet analyser called wireshark. Displays EVERY IP address on my 'network'. Trouble is I dont know what the hell I am looking at. Trying to isolate he one my kv is connecting to beyond me. Any help would be appreciated.

1/ Disconnect everything from your network except the KV and the PC your using to run wireshark

2/ Dont run any application on your PC EXCEPT for wireshark - no MSN/Email/Browser etc. Turn everything that uses the internet OFF

3/ Check the IP address of you PC (drop to a command prompt and use the IPConfig command). That will give you your PC's IP address which, if your on a router, will likely start 192.168.........

Remember this IP address so you can either filter it from the wireshark logs or just plain ignore it.

4/ Run the wireshark program. Now pretty much anything logged from any source IP other than your PC IP will be from the KV.

5/ Collect data

6/ You should be able to recognise a pattern to the data packets to know which ones to examine further. Start looking at destination IP's

7/ ................

btw, the servers are certainly not in the US. It would be pretty silly for anyone to set up a CS server in that particular country !
