Hi
can anybody help me please?
my toshiba laptop has died on me. when i turn it on it boots up and then shuts down. this happens at various times from tem seconds terboot up and sometimes wen i have managed to log in, but always within a couple of minutes. i used to ave currys wotever happens guarentee but typically i cancelled it in June!!

does it go pass bios? to os screen? try swopping ram

Could be memory but as you state that you have managed to log in, at times, I'm thinking it's an over heating problem, probably the CPU fan has broken, or become disconnected.

Just to be on the safe side stop trying to boot up the laptop until you open it up and check that the cooling fans are working, if you carry on trying to run it you might fry the processor.

cable_man, it's a laptop not a desktop computer.

your laptop is suffering from over heating issues... Used to have a HP laptop which did the same thing... It would boot and then work for like half hr maybe 1 hr and then switch it self off... cause of the problem was Over heating. if it was a RAM problem then machine wouldnt switch itself ... it would keep restarting or the full memory wont be detected. and most likely u would end up with a BSOD ( blue screen of death) and end up with a message like : driver irq less or equal) something similar like that U can download a software called '' Everest Ultimate'' and then install it and check the temps.
