Program being recorded over

I was recording something earlier on and i seen it recording as i was doing something on pc but the program isn't there, i also recorded something after that and it seems that it has recorded over the program that was there should this not recognise that there is something with same name and add a 1 or something to it.

I have changed the record options in prefernces a few days ago and i think that is why the first program was recorded over as i just set a time to record on both so they both would have been no event, so i need to know how to set the file naming and time/date options in prefernces - record back to what they were when i started using this.

If someone can tell me what they are, that would be appreciated as i have the date and channel name options but im not sure how the time bit works and there is no help file at all to help with this.
