Default Smart Cards

So I got a little message from Virgin Media the other day, asking "Are you getting a little something for nothing from Virgin Media?" well, I am, hopefully I still will.

I've done some reading up and discovered that these new smart cards will\have cut out services across the UK, I've also seen people discussing possible methods to continue getting a cheaper service.

I guess what I'm wondering is firstly is there any chance that you'll still get channels from Virgin Media after they've done this (i.e. is a specific box\card type immune?), and also what is the easiest alternative for someone who isn't experienced in the world of chipped boxes.

What really pisses me off is my brother bought the box like a week ago

Yeah mate I'd stream everything online but it's for the others in my house. Also yeah I didn't look into at all I just came home and my brother had bought it.

I'm cool with a PC, I'm far from bad with computers, but it's the technology directly relating to cable TV I have no idea about. I've looked at some of these other boxes but what I don't understand is how they prevent it.

Also here's something I didn't get: If Virgin Media knew I had a chipped box (assuming they did considering that message came up on screen) then why didn't they just cut off my service there and then? If they know I'm stealing the channels why not just cut off my service?

What do you think the odds are of boxes that beat this Nag 3 system in a few months? Is it plausible?

Also does anyone have a link to a decent thread about this? Everything I searched produced too many results...Thanks, I know I'm a pain in the arse :P

your chipped box has no feedback so vermin dont know you use one. that message is a standard message sent out to everyone...
most of eire has been down for 9 months, still no hack... so i dont expect one!!
c/s is a way round it but not my cup of tea... seems to be full of hiccups...
lots of info but as you say , probably too much.... so i've paid up for now!!!
