Default Will a starview / eurovox type box provide me with freeview?

Basically i cancelled my subscription to Virgin over 2 months ago now. I had a V + box downstairs and a standard silver one upstairs. The V+ card was turned off on termination date but the other one has continued to work with all channels on XL package that we used to have. ( I no longer have access to movies on demand and music though) We kept thinking we would be turned off but so far so good. I have moved the working box to downstairs and it is still on no probs. A virgin media guy turned up then asing for the V+ box which we gave him but he didn't mention the other one so nor did we! Although i realise they will find out eventually and am probably on borrowed time i am trying to find out if i buy a starview type box and connect it to the upstiars cable connection will it be able to view freeview without being modified as i only want the basics upstairs and don't have the tech knowledge to mod anything! I would get a freeview box but our aerial is poor and we can't get freeview signal.
many thanks in advance for any help

Hi and welcome to Techwatch

you will not get freeview off these boxes, you will get Free to Air only which is basically the channels associated with BBC and ITV

Ok, so basically if i connect it to the cable it will give me BBC and ITV without me having to do anything to the box? That would be better than nothing!

you would need to flash the correct software on the box for it to be able to operate

yes thats correct
you should be able to get a box for next to nothing as these boxes are now pretty useless to most people.

Get a aerial booster you plug in , around £15 and will boost it to get freeview signal
