Hey guys im new so sorry for asking newbie stuff.

Anyhow, my mate gave me his dbox as he lost all chans. I was wondering if there was a way to use it for sky tv just for the free channels. He had it for NTL/Virgin so i take it if i can i will need to flash it?

Any help would be great

Yer sorry my bad was not being rude, i have done it now.

O well thanks for the speady reply. Shame i can not use it for nothing eles but virgin. Ill have to keep it cos im moving soon and might be able to get virgin then.

No you cant, you would need to change the tuner, you have to be pretty good as soldering. If you are only after freesat box, just buy one, they are only about £30

You can't use it for Virgin Media. That's why you've been given it for nothing as it's worth nothing.

Use the Sky box for the free to air channels. Just cancel your sub to Sky and you are away.

Providing he has a freesat card from sky of course... Are they not £30 were last time I looked his old card will die leaving same as the dbox 1 2 3 4 and 5 only as I understand it

No, a card is not needed in a Sky box, all the Freesat channels will be available on it plus more besides. There's a fair amount:-

Free Digital TV Channels - freesat

Theres only a few channels that the card is needed for, can't remember what they are now.
