Hi i bought a 80cm dish for getting 13e and using dishpointer it tells me the elevation is 25 that sounds about right as a sly minidish is set to 20. but on the scale of the dish 25 degrees is setting the dish at 45degrees surely this cant be correct. the dish doesnt give a name just says digi-sat so i cant find any info on it.

Sounds like a good time to ignore the scale completely then.
To start with, set the dish so that the face is roughly vertical, then adjust it to get a signal. Are you very north of the UK?

HI Robbo
Im just outside belfast @ 54.767 and 6w mate. looks like it okay but the angle of the lnb arm is very sharp going up is this an offset dish? it looks pretty much like the old sky dish before the minidish was brought out so it looks like a long a long day to come tomorrow lol. What is the difference between the two sats as there is a minidish aligned correctly beside it. i understand that the lnb arm will 15degrees to the south and the dish elevation will be moved slightly back by roughly 5 degrees. So am i on the correct lines mate thanks Chris |

The azimuth would be the same as a minidish, but the apparent elevation could well look different. I really don't pay attention to numerical values when setting up a fixed dish, merely adjust it for best signal.
A prime focus dish is obvious, it is perfectly round, and symmetrical, any thing else is an offset. Point the dish roughly where the sky dish points, swing it slowly from one side to the other, adjust the elevation a bit, and eventually you'll get there, if you monitor the signal at the same time. Works for me every time. Even finding the wrong satellite is good news, as once one is found, you know where to go to find the one you want.
