hi guys,my dad recently moved into new house which has a sky dish,if he got a technomate and loaded appropriate files would this pick up any channels.

depends if the dish and/or lnb is any good

If the dish is working OK, you would get the Free To Air channels from 28E. You shouldn't need to load any files.

are the fta channels the same as freesat?

Almost.

All the Freesat channels are FTA, but there are channels that are FTA that are not part of the Freesat line-up. Though a Freesat receiver can receive them all, in non-Freesat mode.

can any freesat receiver change to "none freesat mode" ?

I think so yes. Though I only get to use them very briefly after setting the dish up.

Only the Humax models can do 'multisat' though as far as I know (and not particularly very well), the others don't have any Diseqc.
