Sounds fun. I think what the plan is, is to damage it in some way and say that we don't want the hassle of a replacement box, just cancel the account as they were already decicing to change services to another company.

get yer pliers on the PSU, twist off a few resistors or small things you can grip. They aint gonna plug the box in and say its not working, let spend 15 hours in the lab testing the power supply and motherboard, they will just throw it out, I doubt they are repairing old boxes now, I have just swapped mine for the new v HD box, very small very nice, power supply is like a laptop, with I think its 15v plugging in the box, and seeing sky now own it, I think all new boxes will go in that diection, they wont waste money repairing the 2100 and 2100 sammies. The new HD box will become the norm shortly.

I think they want to change because the box no longer works with the release of the new cards, and they have a full package with V(tv, phone, internet), and want to change to sky because of better internet speeds and such apparently. Personally I like V, the Internet at least. I watch tv and such online anyway.

Is "they" actually "I"? Don't be shy, we're all grown ups here. Except for the kids of course.

I'd guess as long as you can get the VM rep to collect the box without noting anything regarding the condition of the box you'll be safe. But just to be sure, turn the box to channel 132 and micturate on it. That's the safest* thing to do.

*Not actually the safest thing to do.

No, it's my sister. I'm not afraid of saying I had a hacked box at one point. Virgin will probably just send a big box and want it posted back

Would a set top box have a mac address? It's not a modem. Also, wouldn't that make it look more suspicious?

Yes and when you cut talkback, it stops the MAC address from communicating with Virgin Media's On Demand servers (which is why you get an error when you try and access On Demand content).
