Question Returning a hacked box?

Hi. I've already tried to search for information about this via google but couldn't find anything. I was wondering if someonecould tell me what Virgin Medias stance is when you cancel a contract with them and they request you to return the set top box to them. (This is on behalf of someone else) It seems that the set top box is hacked, as well as the card. Also it's not the same box that virgin media supplied them with. Will virgin media care, or investigate if it's returned to them, upon an account cancellation? Or is it better to pay the non return fee? (Which I believe is around £70?). Also apparently they have been sent a new smart card which just gives an error stating that the serial number doesn't match the box. So the old hacked card and the new one doesn't work. Thanks for any info

So it could be pretty risky. They should have bought a second box and hacked that. Or better yet just paid the little bit extra a month for the extra channels they wanted, especially when compared to the 250 pounds they'll have to pay, or even the cost of the new box + hack. Is it possible to have the box fixed, so it can be returned safely? Just trying to avoid that massive charge. (Strange though, when I moved house and cancelled my own virgin account, they told me it would only cost around 70 if I didn't return my equipment. (non hacked)). What if the box was.. 'accidently damaged' ?

Apparently they gave the box to "some guy" who hacks boxes, and didn't give the same one back. So now it's not the same box, and hacked. Any solutions, or is paying the massive charge the only option?
