Default struggling

hi all, am a complete beginer. have just recieved my scientific atlanta modem,brought it from someone in birmingham,was told works fine. im in portsmouth ,cant get internet with it. is there something i must change for it to work in my area. guy i brought it from says leave it on for 24 hours and it will update itself and work could this be right

no, he's talking rubbish.

yes, you need to put in a mac from, your own area however most folk cant be bothered with modem modding/cloning/hacking nowadays. it became frustrating

you would scan using dhcp sniffer or something. check out cable modem download area.

you want to be using the macs which come back with assigned configs or bootfiles to them.

you would enter your mac into the modded modem by using its internal web interface at 192.168.100.1

ideally tou need some older macs from a mac trading forum but unfortunately it isnt discussed here to keep the forum legal
