Default VGA to HDMI Converter

Hi, i am currently using my tv (toshiba regza lv665d) as a monitor for my laptop. my Laptop only has a vga connection so i am using that through the "pc in" on the tv. The problem is that i would like a higher resolution as the highest i can achieve just now is 1280 x 1024 (which the manual says is the maximum through the "pc in" on the tv). i know i can achieve this through the hdmi inputs on the tv so was wondering if i buy a vga to hdmi converter that is capable of 1080p then would i be able to get an increased resolution when connected to the laptop? any help would be much appreciated

thanks

Is the quoted resolution the maximum offered by your laptop? Have a look through the specs and see if its actually capable of a higher resolution before spending any money.

Converters are not cheap (budget around £150 but you can probably pick up something less expensive) but check for compatibility at both ends first.

I got a VGA to HDMI converter this year for £50 but haven't managed to get it to work, gave up trying to get it to show second screen as I think I locked it up with the S-video outlet and couldn't get it to out through the VGA point.

If your laptop does not have a HDMI output, then all these things will do is upscale what is coming from the laptop and will not be true HD.

In the long run, using a VGA/HDMI converter is more cost effective than purchasing a new video card with HDMI support, since those can cost several hundred dollars. By purchasing an Mini HDMI to HDMI Adapter for around two dollars or even less, you can have a competent media middle up & walking & you won't must worry about paying additional funds or learning a complicated DVR method that is designed to do the same thing you created.
