Default Buying Linux receiver.

Might be a daft question. If so, sorry.

If I buy a Linux receiver..(seriously considering VU+Duo) will it work straight from the box ?

Yes free to air only, if you want paid for channels then you will need to find a server and most likely pay a fee - but be warned that you then expose yourself as your IP address will be logged at the server end and you never know who could be running the server! BTW the Icecrypt S4000 is Linux!

Not really interested in anything dodgy.

FTA and subscription is fine. Would like however to "dabble" at a later date so receiver should be futureproof.

Liked the Icecrypt 4000 but googling for info makes it look as popular as a chocolate teapot !

skronk, just got a Vu+ Duo from Southern Satellite - by all accounts, a powerful but simple to run box by comparison to some other FTA receivers/PVRs - and HD as well.

Looking forward to setting it up and running later this week.

I too are running a VU+ Duo and can tell you that once set up correctly with the right image its is a very capable PVR satellite receiver, I also installed a 500GB HDD in mine and lastly the best thing is that I also have a proper EPG (not the now and next type)

Dream Elite, however the Dream Elite team have now disbanded! So you might want to look at another one?
