Question Diablo / receiver / Dish position.

Hi Everyone,

I used to be a Eurovox user, but haven't used it in a year or so as I've moved, and TV wasn't a priority. Now I have come to dust it off it's obsolete.... oh well c'est la vie!

In my new place I have a Freesat setup using a Panasonic G10 with a built in freesat receiver. In future I plan on hooking up a Mac Mini with a Satellite decoder dongle and CAM box. I have found some posts on other sites that indicate that the Panasonic G10 will work with a Diablo, and other CAMs.

I've lurked here and read a bit about Diablo cams and think it might be a good solution for a few extras, such as C4 HD but haven't found all the info I need to make my decision, if you could clear up a few things for me I'd appreciate it.

I'm getting regular freesat at the moment. If I programmed a Diablo would I get any extra channels off the same satellite? or would I need to change my dish position? I don't want to do this if I can avoid it as I only receive freesat and no terrestrial TV.

Also is the Diablo cam the best one around and is underworld the best firmware availible?

thanks a lot,
UF

You wont get anything extra from a Diablo 2.3 cam, support ended for this cam some time ago and there are only a few channels left that it will open, none on 28.2E.

I've also read that it will read a Free to view card, for the few encrypted free to view channels, but I haven't tested it personally as I never view any British television channels.

Its also very doubtful that your built-in sat receiver would be able to control a motor for a dish anyway, as that would be your best bet. Most people retain their dish fixed on 28E, and install an additional larger motorised dish together with a suitable receiver for other satellites. People are going for the likes of the Spiderbox and Protek LAN receivers or Linux machines eg a Dreambox these days rather than the CAMs.

Thanks a lot for your replies.
I'll probably look to a setup as you describe in the new year....

Thanks again
