Hi peeps. Im a newbie and need your help.
I have a chipped Virgin Media Motorola Surfboard SB5101e modem that has been working fine for the last couple of years (and i know its not due to go off yet either). My router is a Linksys WRT54GS. Basically the other night I came home and my electric had gone off. When I put it back on my I couldnt connect to the internet. The Power, Receive and Send lights were all solid but the Online light was flashing. I tried a reboot, ip repair, re set my router (no button for this on modem so could only reboot modem). Even tried taking out the coaxial cable and putting it back in. All to no avail. Woke up the next morning and I was back online and all was fine! Anyhow, Friday night my electric went off again (again not a powercut, the electric meter had run out of credit) and this time when i put it back on the modem did the same as it did before however it still hasnt come back online. Power, Receive and Send lights al solid - but Online light is flashing. Tried all the previous fixes I did, nothing works again. Any ideas how I can fix this? Ive tried to contact my mate who did the modem for me but he hasnt got back to me yet and its driving me mad!! Ive ran the ipconfig command and it says Media status is disconnected?? Does this mean the MAC address has been wiped? Now I am no where near as technically minded as some of you clever peeps on here, I have limited technical knowledge so I need any instruction to be in basic terms! ha ha Would appreciate any help anyone can offer me

Well i am just going by my mate who actually supplied it who informed me that it is ok for a while yet.
I have 2 friends who do this and know whats happening and they have said the modem is safe for a while yet. Its the tv boxes that are due to go off soon. You could be right it could be going off, but i just wondered if it wasnt that what else it could possibly be. Last edited by BigD77; 19-09-10 at 02:41 PM. |

I`m in Brum and my mod went off Friday and is still off ,tried my standby macs that normally work and its still no good.
I know its normally finding a good mac but Vermin are knocking us clones off with counter measures, and unless you really know your stuff about mod hacking and using stealth and spoofing and extracting certs than its prob better to pay a small sub and go legit. I am only a just getting my head around the above, so all I can suggest is that you read up like me. good luck |

iam from brum and as ive said in many post before if u are running haxo then dont turn off or reboot ur modems otherwise if u do u will most likely find ur mac will go dead and u will have to leave u modem off for a while and then unplug the coax and change mac and reboot and put ur coax back, and yes it will get u online again, but u unplug it or dont top up ur electric meters then u back to sqaure one peeps.
loads of peeps modems have gone off in brum from friday, but a simple mac change has got them back on. |
