To be honest got this handset for my mum and its alright on some occasions but the battery life is absolutely crap!!! Useless battery life and sometimes I wonder what if I have this phone? I'd be carrying a spare BL-4D (BLAD) nokia battery and a T6 screwdriver I think to change batteries lol

ive had an iphone 3,an iphone 3gs,an iphone 4,an htc desire and an htc wildfire.i now have an iphone 4s..and every single one of them has crap battery life, there all the same these smartphones for battery life or seems to be to me,they all need charging every day.
however if you have one of those crappy old phones with buttons that only text and call then the battery lasts nearly a week on them.
these new phones need charging a lot cos they do so much i reckon .

Personally, I don't buy Ģ300+ phones because they come down in value quite quickly. If you look on the net, my phone (Xperia Play) *just* about beats the iPhone 4 and it cost Ģ155 brand new, whereas a used iphone 3gs will cost you around the same. Add an extra Ģ50-Ģ100 for a used iphone 4

Mainly because it's overpriced, partially because of the fact that they lie more than other companies and are more sneaky about their ways. Every one knows Google is evil, but they're not as evil as Apple

This sort of feature existed way before smartphones, and all modern smartphones can do that nowadays (Besides, the word "smartphone" is just a consumer friendly term - they were initially meant to be called something else, which I can't remember now)

And then I work with the contract rolling. In two months time "orange" will send me the new iPhone or I can wait for the iPhone 5 and that willl be a free upgrade.
They generally do that regardless of what phone you have. They give you a free phone after a while, regardless of the phone you have, and when my contract is coming to a close, I try to renegotiate the contract, instead of just being happy with a free phone

But you can do this with all phones

Not really. I really, really hate the GUI on the Apple. It's easy yes, but it's oh so lacking. It generally seems to be the other way around ie: I see more people saying "Oh I have an iphone 4, you have a shi**y phone"

But they're not. You can go out and buy them quite easily, and I have enough money to cover it, but just see them as waste of money. The ipod however is not too bad

Maybe because of the Apple cult? I tried so hard to get my Mum to buy the Samsung Galaxy S2 (instead of the iphone 4s) and I asked her why she likes the iphone, and her answer was she just does. I've asked this to other people as well who defend the iphone, and seriously I haven't had an answer yet apart from, they just "like" it

Not trying to be offensive here, but from your posts, it does seem like you like/own every thing Apple. They are OK for certain products (ie: ipod) but they are seriously overpriced for the most part.

What they do really well is marketing, making every thing really shiny and making every thing stupidly simple, whilst throwing away certain parts of the OS that would allow customisation

I personally just really like the operating system...it is simple, yes. Exactly. I can move through my files easily I know where everything is, I can get to everything fast and it is great for having fun with. I do now have everything apple, I have a macbook pro, an iPhone and an iPad: excessive I know. But my point for actually getting the macbookpro - my last purchase, was because to me it is harder to actually try and have the other two products updated etc with a non-apple computer. So if you are going to have one you may as well have them all.

Yeah I guess there is a cult, and there are also many people who just have them to be cool and look flash. But these are probs the same people shopping in jack Wills!

So I will ask you this, what should I buy my partner for her birthday if I was to go for phone? What is your honest opinion and why that phone? Itīs either that or she is getting something massage deal from Groupon D that will be easy to buy, cheap and no fuss - which seems perfect right about now.
Seriously? Id get the Galaxy S II because of the hardware involved, and the fact that it's getting Android 4.0 quite soon-ish. I think that's meant to be quite bloody awesome, with less teething problems
