Default Fta

Quick question guys... Lost all subscription channels and now viewing channels 1-5 plus a few of the +1's! Is it possible to get any of the following FTA channels e4, film 4 and cbeebies, if so how do i do it, i've tried rescanning but with no success?

I can do without but the children are going to go nuts!

Cheers

Also if i'm going to have to pay for it, which is better, virgin HD or Sky HD?

Fair enough. Strange how you get some FTA channels but not all.

Probably go with V+HD as i've got had the phone and BB for 5 years and really can't fault it. Might pop to costco tomorrow and have a look at the lcds with integrated freeview HD in the interim!

The dbox has been brilliant and i've had a good 3 few years out of it so can't complain.

Many thanks all

It works out expensive having Sky TV with Virgin phone and broadband, as you are not taking advantage of any bundles available. I don't think you'd end up paying much more for the TV anyway. Another option of free TV with just a couple of HD channels is via free satelllite from a minidish, lots of Free SD channels though.

Yeah especially as I'd like espn, which you pay extra with sky. Think I'll go for the xl package with the sports.

apparently we wont even have 1-5...from a virgin media employee

Virgin Media is a business and they are providing hardware and supporting it.

No channels are not FTA on cable. Only Satellite and Terrestial has FTA channels

so expect when the whole of the uk to go nagra3 a blank screen...

It unlikely the basic 1-5 channels will ever be encrypted on cable. In fact I think it would be against the BBC charter for them to allow such a thing.

As said, there are no fta channels on cable but VM control that by controlling the receiving equipment. You are not allowed to connect anything to the cable except for VM provided boxes.

exactly but if you have a dodgy box or 1 that is out of contract..who are you going to ring??i dunno m8 but i have read other comments on other forums that there will be a message over 1-5 channels making it impossible to watch..it will be interesting to see if indeed this does happen
