Hi all, I'm new here and could really do with some advice.
I have a Humax Foxsat-HD receiver (bought 2 years ago) connected to a Sky mini-dish (very old) and I am receiving the Freesat channels and also non-Freesat channels from Astra 28E. I now want to receive channels from Hotbird 13E as well as Astra 28E. I live in Cirencester, Gloucestershire. I won't be using Hotbird a great deal - maybe less than 10% of the time. I think this involves getting a bigger fixed dish and 2 LNBs pointing at the different satellites - but would a motorised system or a second dish just for Hotbird give me noticeably better results? And would it be worth the extra money? I only need satellite tv in one room and I don't need to record. This is why I would like to keep my Foxsat receiver if possible, but there is nothing in the user manual to say that it will work with 2 satellites. I would be grateful is somene could recommend a solution in terms of fixed dish/2 LNBS or 2 dishes or motorised dish and how to connect to the Humax and/or a different receiver. Thanks |

A solution would be to put up another Sky minidish for hotbird, fit a diseqc switch outside, and then use the existing cable to feed to the box.
This is a cheap but cheerful solution, and would perform perfectly adequately to receiver Hotbird and 28E. The medium cost would be to get an 80cm dish, multi LNB bracket, then as before. It would't work any better than the two mini dish solution. The third most expensive would be a motorised dish, for just two satellites, it wouldn't be worth the effort. The HUmax Foxsat can control a diseqc switch, and view multiple satellites, you have to go into the secret diseqc menu. In one of the menus, I can't remember whch, you have to press the colured buttons on the remote control in order R,G,Y,B,G,Y,B.

Hi,
Your dilemma sounds similar to mine. I had a sky dish, humax box but needed German channels. I replaced the sky dish with clear 60cm dish (concerned about a bigger black dish being an eyesore) and a 3 LNB set up from satellite superstore, one for each astra satellite and one for hotbird. I continue to get freesat in freesat mode and I get the non freesat and two other satellites in non freesat mode, the two other satellite channels blend seamlessly in non freesat mode, job done. I was recommended to get at least an 80cm dish but my 60cm dish works just fine and don't even get any interference in bad weather. Matt P.S. Since setting it up I have never watched anything on hotbird! |

The Foxsat main hidden menu is via remote [MENU] button .... down to [SETUP] on screen then [RIGHT BUTTON] to enter the setup menu.. then the colour buttons both from left to right... R G Y B then G Y B] = Manual Setup menu
Also on the top [SETTINGS] menu there is an option for FREESAT / NON FREESAT mode- to access Hotbird it needs to be in non Freesat ..
